Kinnikinnick Frame

Kinnikinnick Custom Steel Bicycle

I used to call these mountain bikes, but saying that just gets me into conversations that degenerate into a “techie versus grouch” discussion and I’d rather not beat a dead horse.

These frames are a “do-all” for the skilled, open-minded rider. If you’re tired of what the latest magazine defines as the “state of the shock” mountain bike design you’ll find this frame to be a breath of fresh air. It doesn’t come with a shock, it’s not designed for a shock, and it can’t be “improved upon” with a shock.

After over 20 years of designing, building and riding “shockless” bikes with both 26” and 700C wheels I remain committed to a design which is more than proven. It can be ridden and enjoyed in all trail conditions at high speeds with complete confidence. It is not a frame for the lift-riding downhiller or big air free-rider. It is designed to be ridden deep into the woods or far down the roughest roads with or without gear and back out again year after year.

All of the features of the Road Touring Frame with cantilever brake mounts and greater clearance for the largest tires; 700 X 52* (56-64cm sizes) and 26 X 2.4” (38-55cm sizes) with fenders. Smaller frames can also be built for 700C wheels but are limited to a horizontal top tube length no shorter than 56cm and 700 X 42 tire sizes. These can be spec’d for any handlebar. Built with a 2 degree ( roughly 1” ) up sloping top tube and sized more like a cross bike than a mountain bike. More radical slope if used solely for aggressive trail riding. Yes it is great road tourer and commuter too. It’s a keeper long after those hopelessly out of fashion shock bikes are looking for a sucker at the local swap meet.
