Bicycle Design

Each bike I build is designed and crafted for a specific person. The rider’s wants, needs, and ultimate use foremost in my considerations.

I am proud of my bicycles, and I will not build from an inferior design. I will design a bike that meets your optimal needs and makes few compromises.I put a high value on a bike being used and loved for many years. With that ideal, I prefer that a bike be practical, comfortable, durable, and beautiful. I have put much thought into every detail, from lug work to braze-on placement.

If you are a fan of fine bicycles you will no doubt appreciate many of the details of a Solace bicycle.

Solace fork blades are beautifully curved. Lug work is actually done by hand, not cast-in. Stainless steel dropouts are highly polished. And what is rare among custom builders, I personally do all of the work including the painting. A Solace bicycle is a unique expression of the craft and my own expression of what is important to me in bicycle design.

I am not interested in selling millions of bikes or trying to keep up with the fashion bike industry. I firmly believe that bicycles were perfected nearly 100 years ago and much since then has just been marketing. My bicycles are most certainly not for everyone, and my ideas may sometimes clash with those of other builders. This is fine by me. Over the years I have watched many trends come and go but the lasting beauty and practicality of a well-built steel bicycle is still unrivaled.
